NARSINGDI, Aug 25, 2026 (BSS)- BNP central joint secretary general and Narsingdi-1 lawmaker Khairul Kabir Khokon today urged party leaders and activists to remain united and work with honesty and integrity to implement the government's public welfare programmes.
"The people are with the government, and no conspiracy or plot can hamper its progress," he said while speaking at a tree plantation and sapling distribution programme at Narsingdi Government College.
The Narsingdi District Krishak Dal organised the programme as part of a tree plantation campaign announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and to mark the 82nd birthday of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Khokon said the government was working to rebuild the economy and ensure people's welfare. Despite inheriting a fragile economy, he said, the government had implemented its announced programmes within six months.
Recalling the contributions of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Khokon said Zia launched the country's "Green Revolution" in 1977 and that the present leadership was drawing lessons from that initiative.
Speakers said sustainable national development was impossible without improving the livelihoods of farmers.
They urged people to be made aware of government measures for farmers, including loan waivers and incentive programmes.
They also called on party leaders and activists to work closely with farmers and unite people in implementing government decisions, beginning with the tree plantation campaign.
A total of 2,000 fruit-bearing and forest saplings were distributed among students and marginal farmers.
Narsingdi District Krishak Dal Acting Convener Md Shafiqul Islam presided over the programme. Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal President and Barind Multipurpose Development Authority Chairman Krishibid Hasan Zafir Tuhin inaugurated it.
District Krishak Dal Member Secretary Dipak Kumar Barman moderated the programme, while Krishak Dal General Secretary Md Shahidul Islam Babul MP was the chief speaker.
Narsingdi District Council Administrator and freedom fighter Alhaj Toffazzal Hossain, Krishak Dal Joint General Secretary Krishibid Shahadat Hossain Biplob and Dhaka Divisional Organising Secretary Dipu Haider Khan, among others, attended the programme.
