BGB seizes drugs, smuggled goods in five separate drives

DHAKA, August 19, 2026 (BSS) – The paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 284 cans of beer, narcotics and smuggled goods worth over Tk 30.55 lakh in separate drives along different border areas.

According to five separate press releases issued by the BGB, the drives were conducted in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar, Chapainawabganj, Lalmonirhat and Sylhet.

In Ukhia, a 64 BGB patrol at Shilkhali checkpost on August 18 seized 284 cans of beer from a private car travelling from Cox’s Bazar to Teknaf and arrested passenger Azizul Haque, 20, of Shahporir Dwip in Teknaf.

He reportedly admitted carrying the beer to Teknaf for resale at a higher price, according to the release.

Meanwhile, a 59 BGB patrol in Shibganj, Chapainawabganj, seized 282 bottles of Indian Eskuf DX syrup and an Apache RTR-160 motorcycle. Two suspected smugglers fled, abandoning the motorcycle in Dhupapukur village after noticing the patrol team.

In Lalmonirhat, 15 BGB members arrested two people and seized 41 Indian tapentadol tablets and a motorcycle during an anti-narcotics drive in the Mashankura area of Aditmari. The seized goods were valued at Tk 1,84,100.

The detainees were handed over to Aditmari Police Station after a case was filed.

In Sylhet, 48 BGB seized smuggled goods worth Tk 30,55,102 during drives from August 18 to 19. The seized items included 797 kg of cumin, four buffaloes, cosmetics, blankets, chocolates, betel nuts, fruits, juice, biscuits, tea leaves and raisins.

Nine Bangladeshi barqi boats allegedly used to transport illegal sand and stones were also seized, the release added.

BGB officials said intelligence surveillance and anti-smuggling operations would continue along the borders to prevent narcotics trafficking, smuggling and other cross-border crimes.
