Stolen bus recovered from Mirpur Beribadh after 999 call

DHAKA, Aug 19, 2026 (BSS) - Police recovered an Ena Paribahan bus from Mirpur Beribadh early Wednesday after receiving a call to the National Emergency Service 999 reporting its theft from Mohakhali Bus Terminal.

Around 4:00am today, a caller named Mahfuz contacted 999 and reported that a 40-seat Ena Paribahan bus parked at the terminal under Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station had been stolen. 

The caller said the bus's GPS tracker showed that it was moving along Mirpur Beribadh.

Following the call, 999 immediately alerted the DMP Control Room and Turag and Rupnagar police stations to take necessary action to recover the bus.

Rupnagar police later chased and intercepted the bus-Dhaka Metro B 14-7309-about 500 yards north of Panchabati intersection on Mirpur Beribadh. 

Two people were arrested from the bus on suspicion of involvement in the theft.

The arrested suspects were identified as Md Russell, 21, son of Md Robiullah, a resident of Hingatali in Raipur, Narsingdi, currently residing at Mohakhali Bus Terminal, and Lalchan, 30, son of Nasima Begum, a resident of Paikra in Jhenaigati, Sherpur, currently residing near Alkatra Factory in the Tibet area under Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station.

The 999 call was received by call-taker Constable Sakhawat Hossain, while Police Sub-Inspector Aminul Islam, a 999 dispatcher, maintained continuous communication with the caller and the concerned police stations during the recovery operation.

Legal proceedings are underway in connection with the incident.
