DHAKAS, Aug 16, 2026 (BSS) - Seven members of an organised robbery gang have been arrested in separate raids by the Lalbagh Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), with a foreign-made pistol, six rounds of ammunition, a getaway car and various equipment used in robberies recovered.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Estate, Development and ICT) Mohammad Osman Gani of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said the arrests were made based on intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling organised robbery and mugging networks operating in Dhaka and elsewhere.

The arrestees are Md Toyeb Ali Sardar, 45; Pavel Sardar, 33, a dismissed petty officer of the Bangladesh Navy, Saifur Rahman, 45, Rabbi Alam, 24, a dismissed soldier of the Bangladesh Army, Imran Hossain Bhuiyan, 28, Nurul Islam, 33, and Md Ismail, 28.

Acting on a tip-off early on August 14, police raided an open area near Durrani Bridge in Kamrangirchar where the gang had gathered to plan a robbery and arrested Toyeb Ali. 

Based on his information, Pavel was later arrested in Uttarkhan, followed by five others in the Airport area.

Police recovered walkie-talkies, fake vehicle number plates, RAB and DB-marked vests, police handcuffs, military caps, reflective stickers and other equipment used to impersonate law enforcement personnel.

Following information provided by Imran, police recovered a foreign-made pistol, one magazine and six rounds of ammunition from his sister’s residence in Rupganj, Narayanganj. 

A private car allegedly used in robberies and owned by Toyeb was also recovered from Dhanmondi.

Police said Toyeb has 45 cases against him, including murder, robbery and banditry, along with five arrest warrants. 

Investigators also found his alleged links to several recent robberies, including incidents in Jatrabari and Kuril.

The arrestees reportedly admitted to involvement in multiple robberies in Dhaka and other parts of the country. 

Two separate cases have been filed—one for preparation to commit robbery with Kamrangirchar Police Station and another under the Arms Act with Rupganj Police Station. 

Efforts are underway to arrest other members of the gang.
