RANGAMATI, Aug 16, 2026 (BSS) - Four people were killed and two others seriously injured in a road accident on the Rangamati-Khagrachhari highway in Sapchhari union of Sadar upazila here early this morning.

The deceased were identified as Meghrani Chakma, 45, Shantana Chakma, 38, Shobha Chakma, 52, and Shanti Ranjan Chakma, 65.

The accident took place around 5.30 am in front of Manikchhari Army Camp when a pickup van, carrying passenger, veered off the road and overturned as its driver lost control of the vehicle, leaving six passengers injured.

With the assistance of local residents, police and army personnel rescued the injured and rushed them to Rangamati Hospital where four people succumbed to their injuries.

The injured are Gyan Bikash Chakma, 50, and Suman Chakma, 45. They are undergoing treatment at the hospital in critical condition.

SI Khokon Kanti Rudra, in-charge of Manikchhari Police Camp under Rangamati Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the incident and said legal proceedings are underway.
