Agri Secy issues stern warning against artificial fertilizer crises creators
 
RAJSHAHI, Aug 15, 2026 (BSS)- Agriculture Secretary Md Selim Khan said there 
is no real crisis of fertilizer in the country and despite having adequate 
stock, if anyone tries to create an artificial crisis, strict action will be 
taken against them.
 
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting 
titled "Exchange of Views with Stakeholders on Field-Level Fertilizer 
Management" organised at the conference room of the Rajshahi Divisional 
Commissioner this noon.
 
Md Selim Khan said the government's top priority is to ensure the development 
of agriculture and farmers in accordance with the Prime Minister's election 
manifesto.
 
He made it clear that if any negligence or irregularity by any officer is 
found in the fertilizer distribution system, he will be held personally 
accountable and will have to face legal proceedings in addition to 
departmental action. 

Under no circumstances should information come that any agriculture officer 
is involved in creating an artificial crisis.
 
In response to a question from journalists about the adequacy of fertilizer, 
the Secretary said that the stock of fertilizer in government warehouses is 
adequate and the government is strict in curbing syndicates. 

There is no shortage of fertilizer in the country. If necessary, journalists 
can visit government godowns and business centers to verify the authenticity 
of the stock. 

If there is additional demand for fertilizer in any area, there is an 
opportunity to provide additional allocation through the Deputy Commissioner 
and the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
 
Highlighting the issue of subsidy, the Secretary said that despite pressure 
from various international organizations, the government is providing a huge 
amount of subsidy for the welfare of farmers. 

The government is providing a subsidy of Taka 89 per kilogram (Kg) of DAP 
fertilizer and Taka 35 per kilogram of urea fertilizer.
 
Addressing the dealers, he said that the government works for public welfare 
and traders should help the government in this work so that common farmers 
are not harmed. 
He said that considering the long-standing demand of the dealers, a proposal 
has been made to increase their commission from Taka 2 to Taka 4, which is 
currently under process.
 
The Agriculture Secretary said that with the concerted efforts of the 
administration, farmers and all concerned, it is possible to build a sound 
fertilizer management system, which will help build a prosperous nation by 
ensuring the country's food and nutrition security.
 
The meeting, presided over by Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr. ANM Bazlur 
Rashid, was attended as special guest by the Director General (DG) of the DAE 
Md. Abdur Rahim.

The meeting was attended by the DIG of Rajshahi Range, the Police 
Commissioner and representatives of various law enforcement agencies, Deputy 
Commissioners of all districts of Rajshahi Division and Superintendents of 
Police.

Additional Deputy Commissioners, agriculture officers, central and district 
representatives of BCIC and BADC and fertilizer dealers, divisional officers 
of various relevant departments and journalists from print and electronic 
media were also present.
