DHAKA, Aug 15, 2026 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested an alleged mastermind of a fraud ring accused of forging government officials' signatures and seals to issue fake appointment letters and swindle job seekers out of crores of taka.
The arrestee was identified as Md Bablu Kazi, 60, who was arrested during an operation in Mirpur under Pallabi Police Station on Friday, said a DMP press release.
According to DB, the gang posed as officials of the Ministry of Land and forged the signature of a deputy secretary to provide fake appointment letters, gazettes and joining letters.
Between June 25 and July 26, the gang allegedly took Tk 13 lakh from a victim in Nagarkanda, Faridpur, promising him a government job.
Police recovered fake appointment letters bearing forged government seals and signatures, joining letters, gazettes and a counterfeit attendance register from Bablu.
The gang allegedly targeted crowded government offices, posing as senior officials, drivers or office assistants to gain victims' trust.
They even paid small amounts as "salary" for the first one or two months before disappearing, having collected larger sums.
A case has been filed with Pallabi Police Station.
Efforts are underway to arrest other members of the gang.
