Five arrested over Tk 1.2lcr dacoity at Uttara filling station

DHAKA, Aug 15, 2026 (BSS) - Five members of a robbery gang have been arrested in connection with the robbery of over Tk 1.21 crore being carried from a filling  station to a bank in Uttara, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said.

A joint team of the DMP Detective Branch and Uttara Crime Division arrested the suspects from different areas of Narayanganj and Dhaka, according to a press release. 

Police recovered four 7.65mm pistols, six magazines, 21 rounds of ammunition, Tk 12 lak in looted cash, fake RAB identity cards, vests, caps, walkie-talkies, handcuffs, number plates and a motorcycle, it also said.

The robbery took place on August 9 when the manager of DL Filling Station and three others were carrying the money to a bank. 

Near Crown Plaza on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Road, a group of armed robbers riding motorcycles intercepted them in the BRT lane and fled with the money after threatening and assaulting them.

The arrested suspects were identified as Ilias Shikder, 36, Jafar, 36, Md Rubel, 34, Mintu Rari, 23, and Sagar Baroi, 40.

Police said Tk 3 lakh was recovered from Rubel and Tk 9 lakh from Sagar. Other weapons and equipment were recovered from the rented residences of the suspects.

Legal action against the arrested persons is underway, while efforts continue to arrest the remaining suspects and recover the rest of the looted money.
