KHULNA, Aug 14, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City BNP has announced a seven-day programme to observe the party's 48th founding anniversary.

The programme was announced at a joint preparatory meeting organised by Khulna City BNP and its affiliated and associate bodies at the party office on Friday afternoon.

City BNP President and Khulna Development Authority Chairman Advocate Shafikul Alam Mona presided over the meeting, while General Secretary and Bangladesh Cricket Board Director Shafikul Alam Tuhin conducted it.

Among others, Chowdhury Shafiqul Islam Hossain, Sheikh Sadi, Masud Parvez Babu, Hasanur Rashid Chowdhury Miraj, KM Humayun Kabir, Hafizur Rahman Moni, Advocate Sheikh Mohammad Ali Babu, Murshid Kamal and Kazi Mizanur Rahman addressed the meeting.

According to the programme, national and party flags will be hoisted at sunrise on September 1, while the offices of the metropolitan, thana and ward units will be illuminated.

A doa mahfil will be held at the party office at 11am, followed by a colourful procession from Zia Hall premises at 3pm.

The programme also includes cleanliness drives in every ward to help prevent dengue, tree plantation campaigns across wards, discussions at every thana unit and meetings with the families of BNP leaders and activists who died since the party's founding.

At the meeting, Khulna City BNP leaders said the defeated forces of 1971 and 2024 are hatching various conspiracies to disrupt the country's democratic journey and undermine its sovereignty.

The leaders said as Bangladesh moves towards a promising and discrimination-free future, a vested quarter is trying to create instability through rumours, provocations and subversive activities.

They also alleged that "associates of the fallen autocratic regime" are still active within the administration and obstructing government activities.

They called upon all patriotic people to remain united, upholding the spirit of the Liberation War of 1971 and the Mass Uprising of 2024, to build a strong, democratic and prosperous Bangladesh.
