DHAKA, Aug 14, 2026 (BSS) - Rakibul Islam Rakib, outgoing president of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), said formulating programmes in coordination with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement during the July Mass Uprising and playing an effective and heroic role on the streets were the key successes of their tenure.

He made the statements in a post on his Facebook profile last night as his tenure draws to a close.

"Alhamdulillah, millions of thanks to Almighty Allah. The best chapter of my life is coming to an end in an atmosphere of immense respect and cordiality," Rakib wrote.

He expressed deep gratitude to BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and late former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia for giving him the opportunity to serve the central executive committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Dhaka University. He also extended his appreciation to former BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Student Affairs Secretary Rakibul Islam Bakul, top leaders of the party, and former leaders of Chhatra Dal.

Acknowledging the dedication of student activists, Rakib paid tribute to leaders and activists of the central committee, university, medical college and other educational units of Chhatra Dal.

Rakib specially thanked leaders from five colleges in Dhaka and four major metropolitan units for making street programs successful despite severe financial hardship and conspiracy.

He also expressed pride in the honesty and dedication of JCD leaders, saying they upheld moral principles despite severe financial constraints.

Reflecting on the political situation after August 5, 2024, Rakib noted that the organization had to face and deal with hundreds of mob situations across educational institutions while continuing to lead despite persistent online bullying and social media harassment.

On campus politics, Rakib highlighted his efforts to foster positive student politics across educational institutions.

"Beyond my party, whenever general students approached me, I tried my best to resolve their issues," he stated, while also thanking leaders of fraternal student organizations involved in the anti-fascist movement.

Looking ahead, Rakib requested forgiveness for any shortcomings during his tenure, stating, "I want to start a new journey in life and groom myself as a more refined, humane, and honest person. No one is above mistakes. If I have hurt anyone during my service, I request your kind forgiveness."

He concluded his message by requesting everyone to warmly welcome the upcoming leadership committee of Chhatra Dal.
