DHAKA, Aug 13, 2026 (BSS)- Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir has called on police officers to work with patriotism, courage and professionalism to maintain law and order in Dhaka to ensure overall safety and security of the citizens.

“Dhaka is home to people from all walks of life, including foreign diplomats. Maintaining a stable law and order in the capital is essential for overall stability and security of the country,” he said. 

He made the remarks at a special meeting on law and order held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh this afternoon.

The police chief instructed senior police officers to strengthen direct monitoring and supervision on field-level activities to make policing more effective and responsive. 

He said proper supervision and guidance encourage police personnel at the grassroots to perform their duties with greater confidence and commitment.

“Do not bow down to injustice. Work in the national interest and for establishing peace,” he told the officers. 

He warned that deliberate misconduct or attempts in personal interests would not be tolerated and subject to strict action.

Emphasising political neutrality and professionalism, he said the identity of police remains the same regardless of political affiliation or ideology—they are servants of the law and the people.

He reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs, while identifying cybercrime, rumours, misinformation and malicious social media campaign as growing challenges to public safety.

The IGP urged police officers to remain vigilant against attempts to undermine the effectiveness of the police force and counter misleading information through professional, timely and responsible policing.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmad, Additional IGP Khondoker Rafiqul Islam, and senior officers of Bangladesh Police attended the meeting.
