Mirpur tops capital arrests in 24hrs crackdown

DHAKA, Aug 13, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 500 people and filed 58 cases during a 24-hour operation across the capital.

The arrests were made in different parts of Dhaka as part of the DMP's regular crime-control operations, said a DMP press release.

Police also recovered two foreign-made pistols, five rounds of ammunition and two magazines.

The operation led to the seizure of 12.2 kilograms of cannabis, 6,647 yaba tablets, 40 bottles of phensedyl and 100 grams of heroin. Police also recovered three machetes, a hammer, a toy pistol, six mobile phones and a five-kilogram brass mesh.

One victim was also rescued during the operation.

The highest number of arrests was recorded in Mirpur, where 101 people were detained, followed by Motijheel with 85, Wari with 65, Tejgaon with 53, Lalbagh with 49 and Ramna with 46.

Police said 43 people were arrested in Uttara, 34 in Gulshan, 17 by the Detective Branch and seven by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit.

Legal proceedings against those arrested are underway.
