DHAKA, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam has said development project priorities for areas newly incorporated into the city corporation will be determined by coordinating the needs of local residents and public representatives.

He said streetlights, modern waste management and improved communication systems would be developed in these areas in phases as part of ongoing development activities.

He made the remarks today while attending a tree-plantation programme in Ward No. 75 of the Khilgaon Kayetpara area as the chief guest and inspecting ongoing development activities in the area.

State Minister for Railways and Road Transport and Highways Division Habibur Rashid Habib attended the programme as the special guest.

During the field visit, the DSCC administrator inspected the progress of tree planting activities, roads, the surrounding environment and the overall situation of ongoing development projects.

He instructed the concerned officials to maintain cleanliness in the area, ensure proper maintenance of planted trees and maintain the quality of ongoing development works.

He also said such field-level monitoring would continue regularly to ensure civic amenities for local residents.

Regarding applications by residents of the newly incorporated areas for tax exemption, the DSCC administrator said development activities in an area are carried out by combining taxes paid by citizens with government allocations.

"Therefore, development work will be hampered if taxes are not paid. However, the cases of citizens who are completely helpless may be considered separately," he said.

Speaking as the special guest, State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib said a list of existing problems related to roads, drainage systems, culverts and educational institutions had already been handed over to the DSCC administrator in the interest of the area's overall development.

He expressed hope that Dhaka South City Corporation would take effective steps to resolve these problems soon.

Local political leaders and senior officials of Dhaka South City Corporation at different levels were present during the development work inspection and tree-planting programme.
