DHAKA, August 12, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed six people on a seven-day remand each in a case lodged over alleged fraud using forged identities of different government officials, and documents.

The accused are Faruk Hossain, Sakib Khan, Masum Munshi, Mir Tauhidul Islam, Bokul Mondol and Rafikul Islam.

Dhaka Metropolitan  Magistrate  Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order as police produced them before the court and pleaded to place them on a seven-day remand each in the case.

According to the case documents, the matter came to police attention after a letter from the office of the secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment revealed that forged documents had been prepared using the names, identities and signatures of important government officials.

An envelope bearing the name and logo of the Prime Minister’s Office was sent to the ministry secretary. Inside were various documents carrying the signatures of the Prime Minister, ministers, state ministers, the foreign affairs adviser, the cabinet secretary and other senior government officials.

As doubts arose over the authenticity of the documents, the matter was referred to the Cyber and Special Crime Division Unit of the DMP’s Detective Branch (DB) for investigation. 

During the investigation, police, with the help of information technology, found that an organised group had been defrauding individuals and organisations by forging the seals, signatures and official letterheads of various important government officials.

DB Sub-Inspector Raihanur Rahman filed the case with Ramna Police Station on August 5.
