DHAKA, Aug 10, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) administrator Md Abdus Salam today called upon the Dhaka citizens to consider the capital as their own city otherwise they will not develop a sense of responsibility and affection toward it.

The DSCC administrator came up with the appeal at an exchange of views with the newly elected leaders of the Greater Dhaka Journalists' Forum at Nagar Bhaban here, said a press release.

Organization's President Nuruddin Ahmed, General Secretary Mohammad Momin Hossain, Vice Presidents A.B.M. Rafiqueur Rahman and Monirul Islam, Joint Secretary Anjan Rahman, Culture and Publications Secretary Sumon Islam, Office Secretary Atiqul Islam, Public Welfare Secretary Nurunnabi Rabbi, and members Galman Shafi, Lutfur Rahman, Delwar Hossain Badal, and Kushar Yasir also spoke.

"We want the City Corporation to become stronger and more closely connected with the people. We are working to transform Dhaka into a modern, clean and livable city," said the administrator.

He sought constructive suggestions and cooperation of media in implementing this master plan. 

"When civic problems are highlighted through your reporting, it becomes easier for us to take prompt administrative action. Therefore, we consider the media one of the key partners in development," he told the journalists.

He further said, "As you know, our beloved Dhaka began its journey as the capital of Subah Bangla in 1610 and has now entered its 416th year. To celebrate this long journey of heritage and glory, the DSCC has organized a special festival titled 'Hridoye Dhaka' (Dhaka in Our Hearts)."

"We expect the current civic problems and future challenges of this 416-year-old city to be presented objectively through your reporting," he added.

Greater Dhaka Journalists' Forum President Nuruddin Ahmed welcomed the initiative of the Dhaka South City Corporation to organize the 'Hridoye Dhaka' festival to mark Dhaka's 416th anniversary.

He said that the organization would stand by the City Corporation in any Dhaka-based initiative.

General Secretary Mohammad Momin Hossain said, "We seek your cooperation in protecting the rights of Dhaka-based journalists and maintaining an environment conducive to objective journalism. At the same time, we request that free flow of information be ensured regarding any development-oriented or public welfare activities of Nagar Bhaban."

He added, "We hope that under your leadership as an efficient administrator, the Dhaka South City Corporation will set an outstanding example in providing civic services."
