DHAKA, August 10, 2026 (BSS) – State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque today called upon every student to plant at least one tree as part of the government’s target to plant 25 crore trees across the country over the next five years.

“We want to plant 25 crore trees across the country in the next five years . . . keeping this in mind, we are launching tree plantation activities at every educational institution in Pallabi and Rupnagar under Dhaka-16 constituency,” he said.

The state minister made the remarks while participating in a tree plantation programme at MDC Model School & College and Sultan Molla High School in Mirpur here this morning.

He, however, said the tree plantation drive should not be confined to educational institutions alone.

“The ongoing tree plantation programme under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s initiatives for environmental conservation and greening should not be limited to educational institutions,” he said.

Addressing the students, Aminul urged them to plant at least one tree wherever possible – in front of their homes, in their yards or around their neighbourhoods.

He also called upon the students to encourage their parents to plant trees after returning home.

“There is no alternative to trees for maintaining ecological balance and ensuring a greener environment . . . Trees not only supply oxygen but also play an important role in creating a healthy and pleasant environment,” the state minister said.

Urging every citizen to participate in tree plantation, he said, “If we all plant one tree each, everyone can become a stakeholder in the programme to plant 25 crore trees. Our collective efforts can build a green and beautiful environment as well.”

Aminul Haque, who attended the programme as the chief guest, planted saplings of different species along with the students.

Students, teachers, guardians, local residents and BNP leaders from different levels were present at the programme.
