NATORE, Aug 9, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin today said the government has formulated a policy to nationalise century-old educational institutions in phases as part of its efforts to ensure quality and inclusive education.

She made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting with teachers, students, guardians and party activists as the chief guest at Mohorkoya Degree Pass and Honours College in Lalpur upazila.

The state minister said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken various initiatives to improve the quality of education.

"Development of educational infrastructure alone is not development. We are also considering the mental well-being of teachers and students," she said.

She urged teachers to play a responsible role and provide additional lessons to students who are weak in particular subjects.

The government wants students to receive comprehensive education in a joyful classroom environment, she said, adding that reducing dependence on private tutoring would allow students to develop their creativity and engage in sports, arts, literature and culture.

She said the government is working to ensure development free from discrimination and sought public cooperation in its efforts.

The meeting was chaired by Mohorkoya Degree Pass and Honours College Principal Dr Md Ismat Hossain.
