DHAKA, Aug 9, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 504 people in its regular anti-crime operations across the capital over the past 24 hours and filed 35 cases, police said on Sunday.
According to a DMP press release, arrests were made by different police divisions across Dhaka.
The Mirpur division recorded the highest number of arrests with 144, followed by Motijheel with 72, Tejgaon with 66, Wari with 55, Gulshan with 47, Uttara with 40, Lalbagh with 39, Ramna with 34 and the Detective Branch (DB) with seven.
During the operations, police recovered a range of suspected criminal and drug-related items, including 29.95 kilograms of cannabis, 225 yaba tablets, 35 grams of heroin and 48 bottles of Eskaf syrup (codeine-based cough syrup).
Police also seized 22 rounds of live shotgun cartridges, five mobile phones, a water motor, a wallet, three pieces of foil paper, a gas lighter, Tk 8,750 in suspected drug-sale proceeds, a pair of scissors, an electric shock device, a knife, a switchgear, a hacksaw blade and a Tk 10 note.
The arrests and seizures were made during separate operations conducted in various police station areas of the capital.
Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway.
