DHAKA, Aug 8, 2026 (BSS) - The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized Indian goods worth Tk 1.03 crore in a drive in Feni and arrested a suspected drug smuggler with 40,000 yaba tablets in Cox's Bazar.

The Feni Battalion (4 BGB), conducting a special operation in the Fulagazi and Chhagalnaiya border areas today, seized Indian sarees, Pond's powder, Orange Tang, hair cream, chocolates and a motorcycle worth a total of Tk 1,02,87,400, said a BGB press release tonight.

Meanwhile, a patrol team of the Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB) arrested the suspected drug smuggler with the yaba tablets during a special operation in the Palangkhali border area of Ukhiya on Friday night.

On information, a special patrol team of the Palangkhali Border Outpost took position at Ulubonia Kamaler Gher area around 9pm on August 7. At around 9:30pm, the patrol team spotted a man entering Bangladesh from the Myanmar side carrying a bag. The team challenged him as he entered Bangladesh, but he tried to flee and was subsequently arrested, according to the press release.

The arrestee was identified as Mehedi Hasan Junaid, 27, son of Syed Amin, of Katakhali village under Teknaf Police Station in Cox's Bazar. A search of his bag led to the recovery of 40,000 yaba tablets packed in four cartons, it said.

During preliminary interrogation, Junaid reportedly admitted that he had brought the yaba from the Myanmar border for selling at a higher price.

Meanwhile, the seized Indian goods were handed over to local police stations and customs authorities for further legal action.
