RCC, Youth Changemakers Network initiates a month-long tree plantation

RAJSHAHI, Aug 7, 2026 (BSS)- Youth Changemakers Network and with the overall cooperation of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has initiated a month-long tree plantation and saplings distribution programme (Project Shikor) across 30 wards of the city.

They launched the programme as part of implementing Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's announced programme of planting 25 crore trees in five years.

RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton inaugurated the event as the chief guest at a ceremony organised at the Central Park and Zoo in the city this morning.

"Tree plantation programmes are being implemented across the country to implement the Prime Minister's initiative," Riton said, adding that Rajshahi City Corporation is currently carrying out an activity of planting 2.5 lakh tree saplings across the city.

With the cooperation of the City Corporation, various organisations, educational institutions, and government and private institutions are planting trees.

In the next 2 years, Rajshahi metropolis will become even greener. "We will unitedly build Rajshahi metropolis as a more beautiful, clean, green, healthy and safe city."

He further said many points of the 31-point outline announced by the Prime Minister have already been implemented.

Distribution of Family Cards, Agriculture Cards, payment of honorarium to Imams and Muazzins, and canal excavation programmes are already being implemented.

To build a drug-free country, the Prime Minister has inspired the youth to take up sports as a profession.

At that time, President of Youth Changemakers Network Didarul Islam, itsGeneral Secretary Israt Jahan, Vice President Amit Sarkar and other members were present.

Also present at the programme were RCC Superintending Engineer Khairul Baker, Executive Engineer Nilufer Yasmin, General Secretary of Kashiadanga Thana BNP Maziul Ahsan Himel and leaders of various levels of Metropolitan, Thana and Ward BNP.
