Youth can bring meaningful change: Farzana Sharmin

DHAKA, Aug 6, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin today said only a united nation and its youth can bring about meaningful change.

"The July Mass Uprising was the outcome of the collective efforts of students, the public and all pro-democracy political parties. It is possible to build a Bangladesh for all through the combined efforts of young people and citizens from all walks of life," she said.

She made the remarks while delivering the chief guest's speech at the inaugural ceremony of the seven-day "Inter-Hall Debate Competition 2026", organised by the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Debating Society here.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university Prof Dr Md Abdul Latif addressed the function as the special guest.

Chairman of Debate for Democracy Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran attended the event as the guest of honour, while Prof Dr Md Tajul Islam Chowdhury chaired the programme.

Pro-VC Prof Dr Md Belal Hossain, Treasurer Prof Md Abul Bashar and Agricultural Information Service Director Md Masihur Rahman also spoke on the occasion. Later, Farzana Sharmin formally inaugurated the seven-day Inter-Hall Debate Competition 2026.
