BRUR observes July Uprising Day with due dignity

RANGPUR, Aug 6, 2026 (BSS) - Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) observed 'July Uprising Day-2026' with daylong colorful arrangements, due dignity and festivity. 

The celebration began with hoisting the national flag on Wednesday morning followed by inauguration of the colorful procession by Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali from the south gate of the university's administrative building. 

In the rainy morning, teachers, students, officers and employees of various departments and offices of the university participated in the procession with banners. 

To the tune of musical instruments, the procession passed through Parker Mour, Shaheed Abu Sayeed Chattar and Modern Mour and circled the main roads of the campus. 

Then, on the occasion of the day, Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Showkat Ali planted a tree on the campus. 

After the tree planting, the Vice-chancellor spoke to the local journalists. 

He said, "Today is the second anniversary of our July mass uprising. The entire credit for the unprecedented mass uprising of all students and the public in July 2024 belongs to our youth."

It is because of this youth that a democratic environment has returned to Bangladesh today. 

The Vice-chancellor said, the sacrifice of martyr Abu Sayeed, the pioneer of the July mass uprising to build a Bangladesh free from fascism and discrimination, is a rare event in the world. 

"The sacrifice of martyr Abu Sayeed was a shining example of this movement, which continues to inspire the struggle of the young generation even today. We want that no dictatorial regime can ever return," he said. 

A painting competition was organized in the afternoon on the occasion of 'July Uprising Day-2026'. 

In addition, an essay competition was organized in the afternoon at the Kobi Hayat Mamud Bhaban and a road magazine was published with writings based on the July Uprising. 

After Zohr prayers, a doa and Milad Mehfil was held at the central mosque of the university to pray for the forgiveness of the souls of the July martyrs and the speedy recovery of the injured July warriors. 

Special food was arranged for the students of the three residential halls of the university on the occasion of 'July Uprising Day-2026'. 

In the afternoon, a discussion meeting was organized in the field adjacent to the residence of the vice-chancellor of the university. 

The Vice-chancellor as the chief guest addressed the discussion chaired by convener of the July Uprising Day-2026 celebration committee, proctor and acting registrar Professor Dr Md Ferdous Rahman.

Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Professor Dr Md Nazrul Islam was present as special guest. 

Later, a cultural programme was organized to commemorate the July Uprising, where university students and the popular music group 'Bagdhara' performed songs.
