CHATTOGRAM, August 4, 2026 (BSS) - The container vessel ‘CNC Uranus’, which became stranded in the navigation channel of Chattogram Port, has been successfully salvaged following an overnight operation.

The collaborative efforts of the Chattogram Port Authority, the Bangladesh Navy, and the Bangladesh Coast Guard successfully rescued the Maltese-flagged container ship MV CNC Uranus and securely anchored at 'B' (Bravo) anchorage. 

Consequently, there was no interruption in the navigation and cargo unloading operations at the country's primary seaport, said Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim. 

“We’ve successfully relocated the ship to Bravo anchorage through a coordinated overnight rescue operation. The port channel is fully operational and secure, and normal port activities are ongoing,” he said. 

The 170-meter-long container ship MV CNC Uranus, constructed in 2017, unexpectedly lost control while navigating the Karnaphuli river channel. Subsequently, the vessel collided with red buoy number 2, struck the retaining wall adjacent to the river estuary, and became grounded. 

The ship, which had originated from the Shikou port in China, had a draft of 9.50 meters and was transporting a total of 1,282 TEUs of cargo along with 24 crew members, including the captain.

The port's tugboats - 'Kandari-2', 'Kandari-4', 'Kandari-6', and 'Kandari-11'- were involved in the rescue efforts. The Bangladesh Navy's tugboat 'Shibsa', Tunnel Tugboat, and the Bangladesh Coast Guard's tugboat 'Promatta' also participated in the operation. 

The CPA has expressed its appreciation and congratulations to the pilot, tug crew, naval personnel, and members of the Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard who took part in the rescue operation.
