DHAKA, Aug 4, 2026 (BSS) - Nurul Islam Akand, father of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Senior Reporter and former Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA) Sayed Mohammad Pitu, died of old age complications.

He breathed his last at his residence in Mirpur-1 in the capital this afternoon at 1:30 pm. He was 82.

Nurul Islam Akand is survived by his wife, one son, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

Family sources said he had been suffering from various age-related health complications for nearly two years and had remained bedridden.

His namaz-e-janaza will be held after Maghrib prayers today at Madhya Paikpara Jame Mosque in Mirpur.

He will later be laid to rest at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard.

BSS Managing Director and Chief Editor Kamal Uddin Shabuj expressed deep shock at the death of Sayed Mohammad Pitu's father.

In a condolence message today, he prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
