458 netted in 24-hour Dhaka citywide crackdown

DHAKA, Aug 4, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested 458 people in a series of operations conducted across the capital over the past 24 hours, recovering drugs, counterfeit currency, a firearm and other items.

According to a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) press release, 64 criminal cases were filed during the same period.

Among those arrested, 135 were detained in the Mirpur Division, 71 in Uttara, 57 in Tejgaon, 49 in Wari, 37 in Lalbagh, 36 in Motijheel, 34 in Ramna, 31 in Gulshan, six by the Detective Branch (DB) and two by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.

Police said the seized items included nearly 12 kg of cannabis, 6,336 yaba tablets, 90 bottles of phensedyl, a one-shot shotgun, a samurai sword, 17 mobile phones, 30 blank cheque leaves, Tk 1,080 in cash and counterfeit currency with a face value of Tk 28 lakh.

The arrests were made during routine operations across different police station areas of the capital, where officers also recovered narcotics and other evidence linked to alleged criminal activities.

The DMP said legal proceedings against those arrested are underway.
