Helal for undertaking realistic project, not unnecessary one in CHT

DHAKA, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin today stressed the need for undertaking very important and feasible project for the local people of the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) region.

"We have to take very significant and realistic project instead of taking excessive projects unnecessarily," he said.

The state minister made this comment while addressing at a review meeting on ongoing and other projects included in 'Sabuj Pata'(Green leaf) of 2026-27 fiscal implemented by the Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry at Chattogram Hill Tracts Complex Bhaban at city's Baily Road.

State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki attended the function as the guest of honor.  

He said although many projects were undertaken in past but no works happened under the project.

Highlighting some important proposals and planning for overall development of the CHT region, the state minister said it is necessary to increase organic fruit orchard including agriculture and fruit processing, construction of cold storage and dry fruit processing which will create new employment at the local level.

Regarding the expansion of modern education system in the CHT, Mir Helal said the lack of quality teachers for the subjects of mathematics, science and English could be fulfilled through the multi-media class room and the class recorded in multi-media projector run by the central satellite.

This kind of initiative should be included in the 'Sabuj Pata'.

Along with the construction of district-based stadium, the state minister also highlighted the plan of constructing sports ground and stadium at the upazila level aiming to continue the regular training of the players.

Zonayed Saki said it is very much essential to ensure cold storge, health care, pure drinking water and toilet facilities in the CHT region.

Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Secretary Md Mizanur Rahman, additional secretary M Manirul Islam, CHT Development Board vice-chairman Sheikh Saleh Ahammad, principal executive officers of three hill districts and senior officials from the CHT, among others, were also present.
