DHAKA, August 3, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 254 Sub-Assistant Engineers (SAE) of the Public Works Department (PWD) have been transferred and posted to different offices across the country through a lottery-based process here today.
The lottery was conducted at the conference room of the PWD Bhaban here covering 254 SAEs from the country's eight administrative divisions.
According to the lottery results, 119 engineers were posted to offices in Dhaka Division, 27 each to Rajshahi, Chattogram and Khulna divisions, 13 to Barishal, eight to Sylhet, 11 to Mymensingh and 22 to Rangpur.
The lottery process was coordinated by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Md Sarwar Alam. Additional Chief Engineer of PWD Kazi Md. Firoz Hasan was also present at that time.
Additional Chief Engineer of the PWD Ashraful Haque said the lottery-based transfer system would help to establish transparency, impartiality and discipline in the department's transfer and posting process.
Member Secretary of the Diploma Engineers Association (PWD Chapter), Md. Sakhawat Hossain, welcomed the initiative, saying the lottery-based system would restore discipline in the department's transfer and posting procedures.
Among others, PWD Chief Engineer Md. Khalekuzzaman Chowdhury, Joint Secretaries Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and Fauzia Khan, Deputy Secretaries Khan Md. Nazmus Shoaib and Md. Abu Naser were also present during the lottery.
Earlier, on July 30, the department transferred 767 Sub-Assistant Engineers (Civil) through a similar lottery-based process.
