DHAKA, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir has emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to strengthen the cyber capabilities of Bangladesh Police, particularly in combating cyber scams, financial crimes, online fraud and misinformation on social media.
The call came during a courtesy meeting between the IGP and a two-member FBI delegation led by Riley Palmertree at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka today.
During the meeting, the FBI delegation discussed expanding support for Bangladesh Police in areas including cyber capacity building, tackling cyber scams, monitoring social media, combating financial crimes and strengthening technology-driven investigations.
The IGP stressed the importance of further deepening collaboration between the FBI and specialized units of Bangladesh Police, including the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.
He also underscored the need for greater FBI assistance in preventing online misinformation, cyber fraud and other emerging digital threats.
Among others, senior officials of Bangladesh Police were present at the meeting.
