Police, ICRC reaffirm cooperation on training, disaster response

DHAKA, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Police and the International Committee 
of the Red Cross (ICRC) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening 
cooperation in police training, human rights, first aid and disaster 
response. 

The commitment came from a meeting between Inspector General of Police (IGP) 
Md Ali Hossain Fakir and an ICRC delegation at the Police Headquarters today, 
according to a press release. 

The three-member ICRC delegation was led by Head of Delegation Nicolas 
Fleury.

During the meeting, Fleury praised the Bangladesh Police for its significant 
role in providing legal assistance and maintaining support for Rohingyas in 
the refugee camps. 

He also underscored the ICRC's continued commitment to assisting Bangladesh 
Police through training programmes on human rights, first aid and other areas 
aligned with international standards to further strengthen public trust.

The IGP appreciated the ICRC's ongoing support for Bangladesh Police's 
training and capacity-building initiatives. 

He stressed the need for enhanced cooperation in developing the capabilities 
of police personnel in national disaster preparedness and emergency response.

Senior police officials were present at the meeting.
