DHAKA, Aug 2, 2026 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) has formed a four-member committee to ease the process of applications for correction of National Identity Cards (NID).
According to an official letter signed today by Habiba Akhter, assistant director of the EC's National Identity Registration Wing, the committee has been formulated to examine documents submitted with NID correction applications and to streamline the correction procedure.
The committee is headed by the Director (Registration and Expatriates) of the National Identity Registration Wing. It's mandate includes classifying the types of requested changes, preparing a list of required documents for correction, and making recommendations on applications rejected due to insufficient evidence under Category 'D'.
It will also advise on re-submitted applications with adequate supporting documents.
Additionally, the committee will recommend measures for speedy disposal, provide opinions on necessary modifications in the CMS portal to resolve complexities in electronic application processing, and suggest justifications for NID lock-unlock and rollback procedures.
