DHAKA, Aug 1, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Chairman's Special Assistant and Chief Coordinator of the Road Transport Owners-Workers Coordination Council Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas today said the country’s transport sector will be made more dynamic by ensuring cooperation of its workers-owners.
“We are committed to establishing fair rights of transport workers, ensuring a safe working environment and ensuring their social security,” he told a meeting here.
The urgent view-exchange meeting was held with labour and transport leaders from all over the country at a city hotel to resolve various professional crises, rights, security and ongoing problems of road transport workers.
Chaired by Abdur Rahim Box Dudu, the meeting was attended, among others, by Sajib Ali, Mohammad Hanif, General Islam, Abbas Uddin, Abul Kashem, Jobair Zakir, Md Musa, A Alim, Bala Miah, Haji Shahjahan, Haji Mainul Islam, Rabiul Islam, Abu Sarkar, Firoz Khan, Abdul Barik, Mominul Islam Lavlu, Nazrul Islam, Mohammad Musa and Hasan Mahmud.
Transport workers’ leaders from different districts highlighted various problems of their workplace, road safety, fair rights of workers, welfare facilities and the existing crisis in the transport sector.
In his speech as the chief guest, Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas said the road transport sector is one of the driving forces of the country's economy.
He said the transport sector must be made more modern and dynamic through mutual harmony and cooperation between workers and owners.
All necessary measures will be taken in coordination with all concerned to implement the reasonable demands of the transport workers, Shimul Biswas said.
He called upon all concerned, including the workers and owners, to work together to improve discipline, safety and service quality in the road transport sector.
BNP Joint Labour Affairs Secretary and Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation General Secretary Md Humayun Kabir Khan was present as a special guest in the meeting.
Stressing the need for unity of the workers, he said it is possible to establish the rights of workers and effectively resolve the ongoing problems only through talks and organisational strength.
Representatives of various road transport workers' organisations at the district and central levels were present in the meeting.
They praised the strong role and sincere initiative of Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Member of Parliament from Pabna-5 constituency, in resolving the ongoing crisis in the transport sector, ensuring the fair rights of workers and overall development.
They expressed their determination to work together under his leadership in the future as well.
