RAJSHAHI, July 31, 2026 (BSS) - One person has been arrested from Rajshahi on charges of making 'defamatory posts' on social media about the wife of the Prime Minister's Defense Adviser, Brigadier General (retd) A K M Shamsul Islam.
The arrestee is identified as Palash Chowdhury, 48. He is a resident of the Malopara area of the city.
A team of RAB-5's Rajshahi Sadar Company arrested Palash Chowdhury from a rented house in Ranibazar area of Rajshahi city early hours of today.
RAB said that Palash was arrested as an accused found during the investigation.
In a press release from RAB-5 in the afternoon, it was stated that the complainant in this case is Nur Mohammad, 30.
He is the personal officer of the Prime Minister's Defence Adviser.
On the afternoon of July 1, he saw on Facebook that false, obscene and defamatory statements were being spread in the name of the Prime Minister's Defence Adviser's wife through several Facebook IDs, groups, pages and Telegram channels.
In connection with this incident, he filed a case under the Cyber Security Act at the capital's Gulshan Police Station on July 2, mentioning the names of four people and accusing 10 to 12 more unidentified individuals.
The complaint states that when these posts were later spread on social media by various individuals, the victim's social status was undermined.
In addition, she was mentally belittled, defamed and subjected to blackmail.
After that case, Gulshan Police arrested four people. As a continuation of the investigation of the case, Palash Chowdhury was also arrested.
RAB claimed that during preliminary interrogation, he admitted his involvement in the incident.
RAB said that the process of handing him over to Gulshan Police Station for further legal action is underway.
