DHAKA, July 31, 2026 (BSS) - Police on Thursday arrested three people and seized 464 locally-made sharp weapons and other items during a special drive near Baitul Mukarram Gold Market Link Road in the capital. 

The arrestees were identified as Rabiul Islam, 40, Md Azad, 30, and Md Rajan, 34.

According to a DMP statement issued here today, Paltan Model Police Station conducted the raid around 6:20pm on Thursday as part of a crackdown on the illegal sale of weapons used in snatching, violent crimes and other criminal activities.

The seized items included machetes, large knives, switchblade knives, combat knives, electric shock guns, Chinese axes, baton sticks and toy pistols designed to resemble real firearms.

During initial interrogation, the suspects admitted that the weapons had been stockpiled for sale to criminals operating in different parts of the capital, police said.

Legal action has been initiated against the accused. 

The DMP officials said such special drives against illegal weapons and crime would continue.
