BHOLA, July 30, 2026 (BSS)- Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho, MP, has said that the overall law and order in the country is now far better than it was over the last 17 years.

“No news of enforced disappearance, murder and bank robberies is seen in the newspapers like previous time,” he said.

Parhto said this while talking to the journalists after visiting erosion-hit areas at Ilisha and Rajapur under Bhola sadar today.

“During the past four and a half months, there was no allegation of enforced disappearances, killing, political harassment, politically motivated cases against opposition parties, or state-sponsored corruption,” he said.

Such incidents would not occur in the country in future, he hoped saying the government is taking strict action against anyone found guilty of personal misconduct or irregularities.

Referring to the incidents of political violence, Partha said he had heard reports of attacks on leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP). He attributed such incidents to a long-standing political culture of confrontation saying all political parties should exercise patience and refrain from making provocative or indecent remarks.

Highlighting Bhola's industrial potential, Partho said natural gas alone is not enough to establish industries. He stressed the need for the proposed Bhola-Barishal Bridge, improved infrastructure, law and order and an investment-friendly environment.

"The government's goal is to develop Bhola as an industrial hub and all relevant agencies will work in coordination to achieve that objective," he said.

Speaking about the proposed Bhola-Barishal Bridge, Partho said the government has taken a decision in principle to construct the bridge and approval of the Development Project Proposal (DPP) of the project is underway.

He said the project would be implemented through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) following discussions with prospective investors. He also said the government is moving forward with plans to establish a medical college here.

About the river erosion, he said the erosion at Shibpur, Ilisha and Rajapur is alarming. He said discussions would be held with the relevant engineers and authorities to ensure prompt and effective measures.

Partho noted that a World Bank-funded project is already underway to address river erosion but said its implementation needed to be accelerated. He added that permanent solutions would be pursued based on the river's characteristics and technical assessments.

Earlier, he visited Bhola Sadar Hospital. During the visit he said he would discuss the issues of shortage of physicians, sanitation workers and other staff, as well as medicine supplies with the health ministry to ensure the necessary measures promptly.
Bhola Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sajal Kumar Das, Civil Surgeon Dr. Monirul Islam, local government officials and leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) were present at that time.
