CHATTOGRAM, July 29, 2026 (BSS)- Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a 
drive have seized a huge quantity of foreign cigarettes worth about Taka 90 
lakh in Sadarghat area of the city. 

During the raid, a man named Belal Hossain, 40, was arrested on charges of 
being involved in smuggling. 

This information was disclosed through a RAB-7 press release here today. 

Based on secret information, it was learned that foreign cigarettes of 
various brands were being stored and sold in a rented warehouse of Elias 
Majhi on the East Madarbari Darogarhat Road of Ward No. 30 of Sadarghat 
Police Station in the city, according to the release.
 
Being informed, an operation team of the RAB-7 conducted a drive in the 
warehouse this evening and nabbed Belal Hossain, son of the deceased Musa Mia 
of Chawkbazar Police Station area of the city.
 
During the operation, 2,850 cartons of Oris brand and 640 cartons of Patron 
brand foreign cigarettes were seized. A total of 34,900 packets of foreign 
cigarettes, 10 packets in each carton, were recovered. 

The estimated market value of the seized cigarettes is around Taka 90 lakh, 
ASP ARM Mozaffar Hossain, assistant director (Media) of RAB-7, said that the 
process of taking legal action regarding the detained person and the seized 
goods is underway.
