DHAKA, July 28, 2026 (BSS) – Police headquarters (PHQ) today issued an alert urging people to be cautious against a recent trend of cheating using social media, particularly to extort money and influence official matters.
A PHQ statement said the police headquarters in recent days noted several complaints of fraudsters seeking money and making various recommendations or requests in the names police officers, using their photographs as well.
“Anybody who received any such message of the frauds could call the national emergency services at 999 and contact the CIDs cyber police centre, Detective Branch or DMP (Dhaka Metropolitan Police), the statement said.
It advised people not to respond to any such messages saying photographs of any government official in any particular identity (ID) in the social media does not ensure the mobile number belonged to that particular official.
It blasted the activities of the frauds also for damaging reputation of the government organizations and the officials and promised due legal actions against such fraudulent activities.
