BANDARBAN, July 25, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued six tourists alive after a boat carrying seven passengers capsized in the Sangu River at Boropathor area under Thanchi upazila of Bandarban.

A coordinated rescue operation, led by the BGB, is underway to locate the missing tourist, according to a BGB press release issued today.

The boat capsized at around 5:21 pm on Friday due to a strong current in the Boropathor area under the jurisdiction of Tendumukh BGB Camp of Boli Para Battalion (38 BGB), the release said.

A BGB patrol team travelling from Remakri to Thanchi immediately launched a rescue operation and rescued four tourists, along with the boatman and tourist guide, bringing the total number of survivors to six.

One tourist remained missing as of 1:00 pm today.

The missing tourist was identified as Md. Jawad Ul Islam Mahian, 24, son of Md. Helal Uddin and Mosammat Delowara Akter of Maskanda village in Mymensingh.

Four special BGB patrol teams have been conducting search and rescue operations in the Sangu River since the incident, the release added.

Local public representatives, the boatman, tourist guide and residents of the area have also joined the rescue efforts.

To strengthen the operation, the BGB has coordinated with the Thanchi Fire Service.

The BGB said the rescue operation is continuing with the highest priority to locate the missing tourist.
