RAJSHAHI, July 24, 2026 (BSS) - Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has intensified ward-level drain cleaning and mud removal activities to improve the drainage system and mitigate waterlogging during the ongoing monsoon season.

RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton has directed officials and employees at all levels to strengthen civic services by accelerating city cleanliness, mosquito control, drain maintenance, tree plantation, greening and beautification programmes.

As part of the initiative, mud removal from drains was carried out in Ward No. 11 on Thursday.

RCC cleaned and removed accumulated mud from several  econdary drains that had remained almost non-functional for a long time.

The cleaned drains include those stretching from the area adjacent to the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to Sabjipara, Sahajipara, the Harijan Palli Temple area and the secondary drain along the southern boundary wall of Hetemkhan Graveyard.

According to RCC officials, prolonged accumulation of garbage and mud had severely hampered water flow in the drains, causing frequent waterlogging in the locality even after light rainfall.

Following the cleaning operation, the drainage system has become functional again, substantially reducing waterlogging and restoring normal movement and daily activities for local residents.

Besides the drain cleaning, RCC restored the long-disconnected water supply at Hetemkhan Graveyard.
