DHAKA, July 23, 2026 (BSS) - Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Dr Shafiqur Rahman said July mass uprising came with the goal of establishing a society free from discrimination and based on justice and fairness, and above all, liberating the country from murder, enforced disappearances, killings, terrorism, anarchy and Aynaghar.
He made the remarks while addressing, as the chief guest, a public rally organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka North Metropolitan's Mirpur Zone in the Mirpur-10 area here today.
Shafiqur, also Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, said the July movement came like a cyclone sweeping away what the fascism like a house of cards.
The present government and parliament came through the July movement, he added.
The opposition leader demanded brining those responsible for the July killings to justice.
He urged the government to ensure proper medical treatment for those who were injured or permanently disabled during the movement and to provide them with the means to live with dignity.
Mohammad Selim Uddin, member of the party's Central Executive Council and Ameer of Dhaka North Metropolitan, chaired the programme.
