DHAKA, July 22, 2026 (BSS) – Senior journalist Abu Hena Rasel passed away at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in the capital today while undergoing treatment. 
He was 57.
He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives, friends and admirers, family sources said.

Rasel fell ill while on his way to attend a meeting of the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB), according to CRAB President Mirza Mehedi Tomal.

He had stopped at a filling station near Asad Gate to refuel his motorcycle when he suddenly experienced severe chest pain. Local people rushed him to the NICVD, where he breathed his last at 1:20 pm, Tomal added.

A veteran journalist with more than three decades of professional experience, Rasel was serving as Special Correspondent of Khobor Songjog at the time of his death.

Earlier, he worked for several leading media outlets, including Bhorer Kagoj, Samakal and Kaler Kantho.

Rasel was an executive committee member of both the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB).

A native of Rajshahi Sadar, he had been residing in the Bashila area of Mohammadpur in the capital.

His Namaz-e-Janaza was held on the premises of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at 4:30 pm.

DRU President Abu Saleh Akon, General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel, CRAB President Mirza Mehedi Tomal, General Secretary M M Badsha, former leaders of DRU and CRAB, and senior journalists attended the Namaz-e-Janaza.

Meanwhile, CRAB expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Abu Hena Rasel.

In a condolence message, CRAB President Mirza Mehedi Tomal, General Secretary M M Badsha and members of the executive committee prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed their heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
