DHAKA, July 19, 2026 (BSS) –The paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a large quantity of Indian smuggled goods worth about Tk 24.45 lakh during separate anti-smuggling drives in border areas of Brahmanbaria and Cumilla districts today.

According to a BGB press release, the troops of Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) conducted the operations based on specific intelligence information under enhanced surveillance measures along the border.

The drives were carried out by patrol teams of Moniand, Madla and Khadla BOPs under Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria district, and Saldanadi, Shashidal, Shankuchail and Barajwala BOPs under Brahmanpara, Burichang and Adarsha Sadar upazilas of Cumilla district. 

Lieutenant Colonel SM Shariful Islam, Commanding Officer of Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB), supervised the operations, it said. 

During the operations, BGB personnel seized various Indian smuggled items, including basmati rice, chocolates, fireworks, e-rickshaws, puffed snacks, henna products, cattle, Johnson's baby lotion, liquor and beer.

The BGB said the force has intensified intelligence surveillance and operational activities along the frontier in line with the directive of the Director General to strengthen border security and prevent smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking and illegal push-ins, the release added.
