DHAKA, July 19, 2026 (BSS) - Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal today called on all personnel to place the highest priority on their professional responsibilities, stressing that protecting lives and property must remain the organisation's foremost commitment.
"As a service-oriented institution, the Fire Service and Civil Defence must always give the highest priority to its professional responsibilities in safeguarding lives and property," he said.
He made the remarks while addressing a ceremony at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters in Dhaka, where 136 officers and employees from across the country were honoured with the Director General's commendation for their outstanding administrative and operational contributions.
Paying tribute to the dedication of Fire Service personnel, the DG expressed satisfaction with the organisation's emergency response and rescue operations nationwide.
He particularly praised the force's efforts during the recent flood and landslide response in the Chattogram region.
The programme began with a one-minute silence in memory of recently deceased diver Sadik, followed by a recitation from the holy Quran.
Commendation insignia, certificates and cash awards were presented to the recipients.
Speaking at the event, Director (Operations and Maintenance) Lt Colonel Md Mahmudul Hasan also urged officials and employees to remain responsible and cautious in their use of social media.
Senior officials of the department attended the ceremony in person, while divisional and district-level officers joined virtually from across the country.
