DHAKA, July 19, 2026 (BSS) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed today instructed relevant traffic personnel to discourage the unnecessary use of vehicle horns across the city, particularly in designated silent zones, stressing the need for coordinated efforts to ensure an effective traffic management system.
"Noise pollution is not only harmful to the environment but also poses a serious threat to public health," he said while addressing a views-exchange meeting with traffic division officials in his conference room.
Ahmed instructed traffic officials to install clear signboards in silent zones, raise public awareness and discourage the unnecessary use of vehicle horns.
The DMP organised the views-exchange meeting to make the capital's traffic management more effective, modern and citizen-friendly.
He also issued necessary directives aimed at improving the quality of traffic services for city dwellers.
The meeting discussed a wide range of issues, including improving traffic management across the metropolis, easing traffic congestion, ensuring discipline on the roads, enforcing traffic laws, expanding technology-based operations and enhancing the quality of public services.
During the discussion, traffic division officials highlighted various field-level challenges, operational constraints and possible solutions to further strengthen traffic management.
Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman and other senior officials of the traffic division were present at the meeting.
