DHAKA, July 17, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 4,078 individuals during a week-long special operation conducted across the capital from July 10 to 17 as part of efforts to maintain law and order and enhance public safety.

According to a DMP press release, the coordinated drives were carried out by different units of the metropolitan police across various parts of the city.

Of the total arrests, 309 were made by the Tejgaon Division, while 3,373 suspected criminals were detained during the DMP's routine anti-crime operations.

The release said that police stations, the Detective Branch (DB), and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit also conducted separate operations targeting individuals involved in criminal activities.

A spokesperson for the DMP's Media and Public Relations Division said the force has intensified anti-crime operations across the capital to ensure public security and maintain a stable law-and-order situation.

"Police arrested individuals allegedly involved in offences such as drug trafficking, narcotics-related crimes and other criminal activities," the spokesperson said, adding that similar special drives will continue in the future.

During the operations, police seized large quantities of cannabis, yaba tablets, heroin, phensydyl syrup and liquor, along with illegal firearms, locally made sharp weapons, knives, iron rods, hacksaw blades and other lethal items.

Law enforcers also recovered laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards, private cars, trucks, ambulances, motorcycles, auto-rickshaws, CNG-run vehicles, jeeps, cash and various equipment, including wood-cutting and grinding machines. Crude cocktail bombs were also recovered during the drives.

In addition, police rescued several victims allegedly held by the arrested individuals.
