GOPALGANJ, July 16, 2026 (BSS) - A case was filed against 120 leaders and activists of banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations under Anti-Terrorism Act with Kashiani Thana of the district for “planning acts of sabotage”.
Another 200 to 300 unidentified individuals have also been named as accused in the case, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Muksudpur Circle Nafisur Rahman confirmed the matter to BSS this morning.
Imdadul Haque, a resident of Dhankora village under Ratail Union, filed the case with Kashiani police here last night. He is the son of Haji Kayem Uddin Fakir and General Secretary of the Ratail Union BNP.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), leaders and activists of banned Awami League (AL) and its affiliated organizations blocked the Dhaka-Khulna Highway at Tilchhara area of the upazila in the afternoon of July 14, creating disorder.
The FIR alleged that as part of a plan to bring fugitive former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back to the country and restore her to power, the accused chanted the slogan "Joy Bangla" and obstructed vehicular movement, causing fear and resentment among the public.
The complainant further alleged that when he and a companion arrived at the scene on a motorcycle, the accused attacked them, assaulted and set their motorcycle on fire. The accused allegedly fled the scene after police arrived on the spot.
Following the incident, the case was filed with Kashiani Police Station last night, naming 120 individuals and 200 to 300 unidentified persons as accused.
ASP Nafisur Rahman said the case was filed over allegations that members of the banned Awami League organization blocked the Dhaka-Khulna Highway, disrupted traffic movement, assaulted BNP leaders and set a motorcycle on fire.
He added that 18 accused were arrested and sent to jail through the court on Wednesday, while police operations are continuing to arrest the remaining suspects.
