Ishraque visits grave of July martyr Wasim

COX'S BAZAR, July 16, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain today visited the grave of Mohammad Wasim Akram, the first martyr from Chattogram during the July 2024 Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and paid his respects.

After offering prayers at the grave in Mehernama Murapara of Pekua, the state minister told journalists that, as a fellow activist of the anti-fascist movement, he also wants justice for the July killings.

He said that Sheikh Hasina is trying to keep her politics alive through various tactics, adding that the people of Bangladesh would resist such efforts.

Central General Secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Nasir Uddin and martyr Wasim's father Shafiul Alam were present.

Nasir Uddin said the martyrs of the July-August movement would receive justice only when those responsible for the killings are brought to trial.

Shafiul Alam those who ordered the killing must also face justice.
Mohammad Wasim Akram, a Chattogram College student, was killed on July 16, 2024, when police, Chhatra League and Jubo League members opened fire on protesters at Muradpur Sholoshahar in Chattogram during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
