DHAKA, July 14, 2026 (BSS) – The 5th meeting of the Library Committee of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad was held today at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its President, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, in the chair.
The meeting was attended by committee members- Whip A.B.M. Ashraf Uddin (Nizan), Dr. Md. Mahabubur Rahman, Nayab Yusuf Ahmed, Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem, A.B.M. Mosharraf Hossain, Mohammad Nazibur Rahman and Akhtar Hossain.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President welcomed the members present and commenced the proceedings, said a press release here.
Later, the progress of the implementation of decisions taken in the previous meeting was reviewed; the progress of Sub-Committee No. 1, formed with the aim of launching e-Parliament, and the discussions held with representatives of UNDP were reviewed.
At the same time, detailed discussions were held regarding the increase of manpower in the Library and Research Branch to enhance the quality of reference and research services of the National Parliament Library, said the press release.
The committee recommended that if UNDP funding is not available for launching the e-Parliament system in the Bangladesh National Parliament Library, apart from the government of Bangladesh funding, an investigation should be conducted to determine whether any other development partner or donor agency is interested in this matter.
The committee also recommended the experimental appointment of two skilled and experienced consultants to conduct research activities in the areas related to the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, with the aim of improving the quality of research and data-based reference services for Members of Parliament.
It also decided to allocate Room No. 152 on Level-1 of the Parliament Block to the National Parliament Library to use as a conference room for the Library Committee and the National Parliament Library.
