BAGERHAT, July 12, 2026 (BSS)- A tigress rescued from a poacher's trap returned to its natural habitat in the Sundarbans today after receiving treatment for more than six months at a wildlife rehabilitation centre in Khulna.
The tigress was released at the Andharmanik Ecotourism Centre area of the Sundarbans by State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shaikh Faridul Islam.
The nearly nine-foot-long and around 90-kilogram tigress was caught in a snare trap set by deer poachers near Shorkir Khal under the Chandpai Range of the Sundarbans East Forest Division on January 3.
It was rescued the following day in critical condition and taken to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Khulna for treatment.
After medical care and observation, an expert team confirmed that the tigress was capable of hunting and surviving in the wild, leading to its release.
