DHAKA, July 12, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan today conducted on-site inspections of different areas of the capital to assess the drainage system and monitor efforts to resolve waterlogging caused by continuous rainfall.

During the inspection, he directed the officials concerned to remove the accumulated water without delay and take effective measures to prevent future waterlogging.

In the afternoon, the administrator visited Gulshan, Banani, Mohakhali, the road in front of the Prime Minister's Office, the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban area, Shewrapara, Kazipara and the Kazipara Canal area. 

He closely observed the drainage of rainwater, the functioning of drains and canals and the overall waterlogging situation in each location.

During the visit, the administrator instructed the relevant city corporation officials and sanitation workers to give the highest priority to the rapid removal of stagnant water. 

At the same time, he directed the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to develop a long-term and effective drainage system to ensure that rainwater does not accumulate in the Gulshan, Banani and Mohakhali areas in the future.

He also instructed officials to coordinate with the relevant departments and take prompt measures to ensure that no water remains accumulated on the roads in front of the Prime Minister's Office and in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban area under any circumstances. 

He said waterlogging in the capital's important and sensitive areas is unacceptable under any circumstances.

At one stage of the inspection, he toured Shewrapara, Kazipara and the Kazipara Canal area and directed the officials concerned to identify obstacles to water drainage and take immediate measures.

The Administrator personally waded through knee-deep water to inspect the effectiveness of drains and drainage channels. 

On the occasion, he urged nearby shopkeepers and local residents not to dump garbage into drains and canals. 

He said efforts to eliminate waterlogging would not be fully successful without public awareness.

During the inspection, the administrator distributed food among stranded pedestrians in the Kazipara and Shewrapara areas and inquired about their condition.

DNCC Chief Waste Management Officer, Chief Engineer, Chief Health Officer, the Administrator's Personal Assistant and local BNP leaders were present during the inspection.
