BANDARBAN, July 11, 2026 (BSS) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has rescued four tourists and a local guide who had been stranded for eight days in the remote Thuisa Khyangpara area of Thanchi upazila due to heavy rainfall, flash floods and adverse weather conditions.

Talking to BSS, Thanchi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Abdullah Al-Faisal confirmed the rescue operation.

He said the tourists became stranded on July 4 while visiting the Amiyakhum and Belakhum waterfalls as incessant rain and hill torrents disrupted communication in the area.

After receiving information from local residents, members of Jinnapara BGB Camp under Balipara Battalion reached the area on Friday and ensured their safety.

A BGB patrol team today rescued the tourists by trekking through difficult hilly terrain and brought them to Niapiu Mropara BGB Camp, where the upazila administration arranged their transportation to Thanchi headquarters.

Commanding Officer of Balipara Battalion (38 BGB) Lieutenant Colonel Md Yassir Arafat Hossain said BGB continues to play an active role in rescue operations and humanitarian assistance during natural disasters and emergency situations alongside its border security duties.
